Honeymoon Day 1 (aka Tuesday 10/16): ATHENS

David & I are BAD BAD BLOGGERS who haven't blogged in forever.  We're blogging our honeymoon so that we remember what happened each day because we're both bad at remembering specific things.

Day 1: Tuesday
We arrived in Athens in the morning and slept a LOT.  We stayed at Athens Center Square, which was a trendy and small colorful hotel across the street from a neat fruit market.  We didn't have much of a game plan, so we spent the afternoon just wandering around and learning how to take pictures with our very first facy-ish camera.

We saw some neat graffiti - a lot more, and artsier than what you'd normally see in NYC:

And we saw a bunch of really old cool Greek Orthodox churches, but we were wearing shorts & were blatantly touristy so we only peeked and didn't go in:

The pigeons were about the same...more "dove" type ones than we have in NY.  These were in front of Parliament:

And here's Parliament for real, complete with stiff guards:

There were a lot of nifty-looking doors:

We stumbled upon the National Botanic Gardens, but not much was in bloom.  The air was better though:

We played with shutter speed settings on the camera:

We had dinner at a restaurant called Oineas in the Psyrii district that had great food, like this honey/filo/feta cheese pastry, and massive shared plate of a variety of meat + fries:

And then, we went back to the hotel, which in itself is kind of cool looking.  Here are pictures of Athens Center Square's brightly colored outside, the brightly colored Alpha-Quest looking hallway, and the tiny mirrored elevator:

Notably, the rooftop of the hotel was pretty neat, with a great view of the Acropolis lit up at night.  It's apparently a trendy bar during the summer, but I think that's stopped for the year because we've had the rooftop to ourselves every time we've gone up.

Thus, we can play around & take obligatory kissing pictures in front of the giant light up pots!

Day 1 - the end.
